David ‘Tong Po’ Bagoole is the latest addition to the Vipers SC list of new acquisitions after completing a move from Busoga United on Friday evening.
Tong Po signed onto a three-year deal with the Venoms and becomes the club’s 4th signing of the ongoing transfer window after Jamil Kalisa, Disan Galiwango, and Ibrahim Orit were snapped up in the past weeks.
Bagoole had a good second half of the season with Busoga United scoring two goals and assisting his teammates five times in the 15 games he featured in.
He went on to help Jinja Based side secure their best Uganda Premier League finish (fourth position) since promotion to the top flight.
The Touchline’s Kamardin Shero takes a look at what Vipers’ new signing has that probably they lacked last season.
Responsibility and Creativity
David Bagoole Vipers SC had many issues with their creativity last season with the midfield of Ssentamu, Watambala, and Bobosi perhaps not the most creative. they may bring many qualities with them, however, creativity is their top weakness last season so Vipers found it very difficult to create chances for themselves, something Bagoole specializes in.
Experience is something key for any team to be successful in football, that’s the same reason why the Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have captured David Bagoole.
Bagoole is vastly experienced having played in Uganda, Kenya, Seychelles, and DRC. He started off at Busembatia Town Council before playing for SC Villa, Police FC, Baza Holdings, Kenyan SofaPaka, La Passe, BUL FC, Bukavu Dawa, and Busoga United in the last 10 year.
Meanwhile, Abdulkarim Watambala and Bobosi Byaruhanga got their first top-flight debuts last season and might struggle due to stage-freight next season as Vipers is set to represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League next season.
Dead ball specialist
One of Bagoole’s is his ability to take great free kicks and Corner Kicks. This is certainly one of the weak parts of the vipers’ game. Geoffrey Wasswa, their main source of inspiration in dead balls has been in and out of the team during to the recurring injuries that have affected almost his whole career at the Venoms.
Bagoole’s influence at Busoga United in the last two-years is so marked, that when the midfield Maestro is absent, the Jinja-based side looked like a completely different team.
He is, obviously, a fine Midfielder, with all of the physical and technical qualities required in an outstanding Ugandan player. However, his mental strength also sets him apart that comes along with playing for longer periods.
Hunger to make the national team.
David Bagoole dream is to play for the Uganda National team, the Uganda Cranes. Although he put in a stellar performance last season, Tong Po missed out on the national team call-up, so, with him at a better team than Busoga United, Bagoole will work harder than last season to see his dream come true and hence this will help Vipers win games and getting results they need.
Perhaps the weakest part of the Vipers as a whole is the ability to find a killer pass. This is Bagoole’s true area of expertise as he is able to pick out many incredible passes. He may have had 5 assists last campaign, however, with a more potent attack such as that Vipers, he would get many more. Not only would that provide goals, but it would provide the fans with excitement they have lacked since Moses Waiswa left.
Bagoole is a complete midfielder who has got the physique and skills to beat off opponents so swiftly and easier. He is fast, a team player, effortless on and off the ball, has the vision to pick up his teammates so easily, and knows how to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
