Diaspora: How Ugandan professionals fared over the weekend


Luwagga Kizito finds the back of the net, Lubega starts but not on the scoresheet this time-round. Timothy Awany not in the matchday squad once again – the latest from the Ugandan players abroad – in the diaspora.

In Israel, Luwagga Kizito started and netted twice as his Hapoel Saba Kfar side defeated Maccabi Petach-Tikva 4-1, while Timothy Awanyi wasn’t in the Matchday squad as his Ashdod  SC lost 2-0 against Beitar Jerusalem, both in the group stages of Israel Toto Cup Ligat A.

Luwagga scored the first goal in the 12th minute from close range thanks to a Tom Shelach assist and could later find the fourth for the club, his second on the night, off a long ball from his goalkeeper Matan Zalmanovich.

In Estonia, Edrisa Lubega started and played 69 minutes as his side, Paide Linnameeskond beat Tulevik 3-1 away from home in the Estonian Meistriliiga.

In Czech Republic, Isaac Muleme featured in Viktoria Zizkov’s 4-0 over Česky Lev-Union Beroun in the Czech cup.

In South Africa, Cranes goalie and captain Denis Onyango started in goal as Mamelodi Sundowns draw 1-all with Highlands Park in South Africa’s ABSA Premiership game played at Dobsonville Stadium.

Moses Waiswa never made the matchday squad as his Supersport United side played out to a 1-all draw against Bloemfontein Celtic FC in the ABSA Premiership. It is reported that Waiswa could not make the matchday squad due to malaria.

In Egypt, Khalid Aucho featured for 75 minutes and was then stretched off with an injury as his El Makkasa side lost 1-0 to Zamalek.

In Sweden, Ritah Kivumbi featured for 46 minutes as her Mallabacken W lost 1-0 to Jitex W in Swedish Allsvenskan Women while Viola Nambi came on in the 46th minute as her side Vaxjo DFF side lost 2-0 against Vittsjö.

Isaak Ssewankambo played full-time while Ronald Mukiibi came on in the 84th minute for Ouattara as their side Ostersunds defeated AIK 1-0 in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Patrick Mulyanti featured for IFK Åmål as they got humbled 5-0 by Vänersborgs FK in the Swedish Vänersvallen Nord.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi started and played full-time as his Motherwell FC side played out to a goalless draw against Hibernian FC in the Scottish Premier League.

In France, Denis Kutesa was on the scoresheet as his side, Reims defeated  Midtjylland 3-1 in a friendly game.
