Agnes Nabukenya scored the only goal in extra time as Kawempe Muslim Ladies defeated Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 on Monday to win the CECAFA Women’s Champions League zonal qualifiers final and make history.
Nabukenya struck in the 100th minute at Kigali Pelé Stadium to settle a tight final and hand the Valley Warriors the regional title.
The victory makes Kawempe Muslim the first Ugandan team to win the CECAFA championship and qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
It caps a perfect campaign for Ayub Khalifa’s side, who won all four matches, scored 13 goals and conceded none.
Kawempe also walk away with a $100,000 prize for winning the regional qualifiers.
Their next challenge will be the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament, where they will carry Uganda’s hopes on the continental stage.
