Kawempe Muslim are through to the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers final after beating Ethiopia’s CBE 3-0 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Saturday.
Jovia Nakagolo, Agnes Nabukenya and an own goal from CBE defender Tigist Adane sealed a convincing victory for the Ugandan champions.
The win was also sweet revenge for Kawempe, who lost to CBE at the same stage two years ago. The two sides had already met in this year’s group stage, with Kawempe winning 1-0 through Nabukenya’s penalty.
Nakagolo broke the deadlock in the 17th minute after Nabukenya won possession high up the pitch and played her through. The forward made no mistake from close range.
Kawempe doubled their lead 10 minutes after the break when Tigist turned the ball into her own net while trying to clear from Nakagolo.
Nabukenya completed the scoring with 18 minutes left, reacting quickest after CBE failed to clear a long throw from Samalie Nakacwa.
The victory makes Kawempe only the second Ugandan team to reach the CECAFA zonal final, after She Corporate did so in 2022.
Ayub Khalifa’s side will face Kenya Police Bullets who put way Yei Joint Stars in the other semi-final looking at Monday’s final.
The winner will claim the region’s only ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
