KCCA Women survived a spirited second-half comeback from Jinja United to claim a 3-2 victory at MTN Omondi Stadium on Thursday and move to the top of the standings.

Joanita Ainembabazi, Kamiyati Naigaga and Loyce Komugisha were all on target for KCCA, who did most of the damage in a dominant first half before Jinja United threatened a dramatic comeback after the break.

Having gone into the contest on the back of successive goalless draws against Makerere University and St. Noa, KCCA needed a strong response and wasted little time in finding one.

Ainembabazi opened the scoring after just five minutes before Naigaga struck two minutes later to give the hosts a commanding 2-0 advantage inside the opening seven minutes.

KCCA suffered a setback in the 34th minute when Ainembabazi was forced off through injury, with Komugisha coming on in her place.

The substitute quickly made her presence felt, adding KCCA’s third on the stroke of halftime to send the hosts into the break firmly in control.

But the contest took a different turn after the restart. Jinja United emerged with renewed purpose and began putting KCCA under pressure as they searched for a route back into the game.

Sharon Kaudha pulled one back for the visitors before Shakira Kasango added another to reduce the deficit to a single goal and set up a tense finish at Lugogo.

Despite Jinja United’s late push for an equaliser, KCCA held their nerve to protect the slender advantage and secure their first victory following two consecutive draws.

The win sends KCCA Women to the summit with eight points, while newly promoted Jinja United remain at the bottom without a point after four matches.
