UEFA president Ceferin touches down on Ugandan soil

UEFA president Mr. Aleksander Ceferin has touched in Uganda on Tuesday evening, 14th March 2023 at the Entebbe International Airport through the VIP lounge.

On his arrival into the country, he was warmly welcomed by the state Minister of Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, NCS officials Benard Ogwel and Ambrose Tashobya.

His visit to Uganda was highly influenced by by the Aliguma Foundation and excited many with a primary object of checking the progress of the Acholi Quarters project.

Besides the Acholi Quaters project, he will also check on the different works in promoting better livelihoods in the slum communities through sports especially football.

He has come along with his secretary general Urs Kluser, Kevin Lamour ( board member ) and consultant, Srsen Matej.

Movement Program

He will start his movement in Uganda on Tuesday March 15, 2023 at 9 am with a visit to the  Acholi Quarters, attend a Charity March in Kireka Banda B1 Zone – Slum Communities and again move to the Acholi Quarters For Exhibitions and Sports Gala.

Later on his the day, he will meet the First Lady of the Republic of Uganda at the State House and after drive back to Entebbe International Airport for his departure.

Aliguma Foundation is one that was created Ritah Aliguma. They were one of the foundations in the world that twice received the UEFA Foundation For Children grant as part of the 65 humanitarian projects around the world.

The grant was worth 4.9 million (an estimated UGX19.1 billion shillings). The second was part of the 12 Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in Africa selected for the 2022 call alongside another 12 in Asia, seven in Central and South America, and two in Oceania.

The foundation stepped up its works re-developing the multi-purpose Acholi Quarters Playground and improving the structures and status of the Annual Banda Slums Soccer Tournament.

It also bought a 15-acre piece of land in Kinuuma Village, Masindi District and starting construction works at Aliguma Foundation Sports & Empowerment Center (AFSEC) as well as the initiation of other new fundamental projects like the “Ndi Mwana – The Cry of A Girl Child – the powers that be at the governing body of football in Europe were equally excited with the progress and are determined to ensure that the Uganda-based foundation continues to change lives of the less-privileged.
