Stanbic Uganda Cup: Vipers match to the Quaterfinals

Vipers have edged Wakiso Giants on penalties after an intense game to get into the Quarter finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium in Wakiso .

In a game that ended 1-1 in full-time with goals from Shariph Kimbowa on the hosts’ side and Ashiraf Mandela for the visitors, Norman Ojik and Tom Masiko are the players who failed to net in penalties only to hand Vipers a 4-3 victory.

In a game that was bossed by Vipers, Martin Kizza had the first shot on goal that block by former venom Paul Willa.

Ten minutes later, left back Issa Mubiru struck the ball, hence hitting the woodwork an action that portrayed how long the evening was going to be for the home side.

But it settled minutes late for Wakiso Giants to hold onto possession only to get the Vipers players chasing around till the closure of the opening half.

A few minutes into the second half, Abdul Karim Watambala forced a save out of Bashir Ssekagya in the Wakiso Giants goal as he punched the ball over the bar.

Six minutes into the half(51st minute) Shariph Kimbowa broke the deadlock striking home a half volley kick after a beautiful weighed pass from Marvin Nyanzi to send the home fans into wild celebrations.

The game then continued in Sombre mood till defender Ashraf Mandela slotted in an equalizer for the visitors after a good cut back by Martin Kizza on the left flank to level the derby matters, pushing the game into penalties.

Mandela ‘s strike was Vipers’ first goal in eight competitive games.
