Egypt Defeat Ivory Coast in a Five-Goal thriller to Reach AFCON Semifinals

Egypt sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ivory Coast in Agadir to advance to the semifinals of the ongoing AFCON 2025, producing a performance full of intensity, quality, and resilience.

Mohamed Salah starred with a goal and an assist as the Pharaohs prevailed in a thrilling quarterfinal encounter.

Hossam Hassan’s side made a dream start when Omar Marmoush capitalized on an early defensive error to open the scoring inside the first four minutes.

Egypt maintained their dominance, and in the 32nd minute Salah delivered a superb cross that Ramy Rabia headed home to double the lead. Ivory Coast pulled one back before halftime through an Ahmed Fatouh own goal, keeping the contest alive.

The Pharaohs struck again early in the second half as Salah found the net in the 52nd minute, restoring Egypt’s two-goal advantage. Ivory Coast refused to surrender and reduced the deficit once more in the 73rd minute through Guela Doué, setting up a tense finale.

The Elephants pushed relentlessly for an equalizer, but goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy produced a series of vital saves to preserve Egypt’s lead.

The hard-fought victory sends Egypt into a semifinal clash against Senegal, as they continue their quest for continental glory.
