A major milestone has been reached for cricket in eastern Uganda as Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA) officially installed modern batting nets, signalling a new era of progress in infrastructure and player development.
This achievement follows the successful Soroti Cricket Academy Carnival 2025, where the academy raised three million shillings through a community-led initiative that transformed ambition into action.
In a strong show of partnership and belief in grassroots cricket, Cricket Uganda supported the project by providing astral turf materials.
This contribution played a key role in establishing a durable training surface and reaffirmed Cricket Uganda’s commitment to nurturing talent at the community level across the country.
For years, SCA’s journey was defined more by determination than by facilities. Talented young players were often forced to travel to Lugogo to access quality practice environments.
While these trips offered valuable exposure, they came with significant challenges—high transport costs, irregular training schedules, and heavy reliance on external facilities.
Despite these limitations, the academy pressed on, driven by confidence in the immense potential within the region.
The installation of batting nets in Soroti has completely reshaped that narrative.
Players can now train regularly at home, benefiting from structured and consistent sessions that enhance batting, bowling, and wicketkeeping skills.
With travel demands reduced, the academy can now invest more in coaching, equipment, nutrition, competitions, and overall player welfare—key elements for long-term sustainability and professionalism.
The new facility also promotes greater inclusion.
More players, particularly girls, younger children, and those from vulnerable backgrounds, can now access quality training without the barriers that once restricted participation.
Cricket in Soroti becomes more accessible, community-focused, and equitable, ensuring talent is developed purely on merit rather than circumstance.
Equally significant is the impact on retaining local talent.
Improved facilities mean players no longer need to leave home prematurely in search of development opportunities.
High-performance training is now available locally, enabling the identification, development, and retention of talent while strengthening eastern Uganda’s contribution to national cricket.
Beyond their physical presence, the batting nets symbolize a cultural shift.
They mark a transition from survival to excellence, from occasional opportunities to daily discipline and ambition.
They also provide a platform for future initiatives, including coaching clinics, school outreach programs, women’s cricket development, and advanced performance pathways.
Where Soroti Cricket Academy once pursued facilities, it now offers opportunity.
With strong community backing and the support of Cricket Uganda, the groundwork has been laid—not just for batting nets, but for a stronger and more sustainable future for cricket in Soroti and beyond.
