SC Volcanoes hold a narrow 1-0 lead over Booma FC after a tightly contested first leg of the FUFA Big League promotion playoffs played at Mashaka Playground in Kisoro District on Sunday, setting up a decisive return fixture in Kakumiro District.
A vibrant crowd witnessed an evenly balanced opening half, with SC Volcanoes enjoying more possession and attacking intent. Booma FC, however, remained compact and disciplined defensively, successfully limiting clear scoring chances and taking the game into halftime level at 0-0.
The second half intensified as both sides pushed for a breakthrough. Booma FC threatened on the counter and came close in the 64th minute after a series of sustained attacks, but Volcanoes’ defence and goalkeeper held firm under pressure.
SC Volcanoes responded with continued attacking pressure, with their forward line consistently testing Booma’s backline. The decisive moment arrived in the 74th minute when Sunny (No.11) finished off a well-worked move to hand the hosts a crucial advantage.
Despite late pressure from Booma FC, including two promising efforts on goal, SC Volcanoes maintained their defensive structure to secure the narrow win and a valuable first-leg lead.
Both coaches remain confident heading into the return leg. Booma FC’s technical team believes their home advantage in Kakumiro will be decisive, while SC Volcanoes insist they are fully focused on completing the job and securing promotion.
The second leg now carries high stakes, with the aggregate winner earning promotion to the FUFA Big League next season, turning Kakumiro into the final battleground for Western Uganda’s top regional sides.
