Day Five of the Great Lakes Men’s T20 at Lugogo Cricket Oval produced another entertaining high-scoring double-header, with Mburo Blasters surviving a fierce chase in the morning game before Kyoga Avengers maintained their unbeaten momentum in the afternoon.

Victoria Strikers again showed flashes with the bat but were unable to convert starts into a winning performance.

Wabwose and Riazat Power Mburo to Narrow Victory

Mburo Blasters set the tone early with an imposing total of 197 all out in 19.5 overs after an aggressive batting display from the top order.

Charles Musemeza struck 37 off 21 balls to provide early momentum, while Fahad Mutagana lit up the innings with a rapid 26 from just 7 deliveries. Captain Riazat Ali Shah delivered a destructive cameo of 33 off 10 balls, clearing the boundary five times in a short but impactful stay.

Useful contributions from Yashashvi Joshi (29), David Wabwire (29), and Steven Wabwose (12) helped Mburo push towards a daunting total.

Bunyonyi Warriors had success with the ball through Kassim Adam and Nyiiro Johnathan, both picking up three wickets each, but they were largely put under pressure by Mburo’s explosive batting.

In reply, Bunyonyi Warriors mounted a strong challenge led by a brilliant opening stand.

Robinson Obuya hammered 64 off 42 balls, while Anas Baig matched the intensity with 62 from 30 deliveries, keeping the chase alive deep into the innings.

Mburo, however, regained control at crucial moments. Steven Wabwose made a major impact with three wickets, Hamid Munigwa chipped in with two, and Riazat Ali Shah added a vital breakthrough to break momentum.

Despite resistance in the middle and lower order, Bunyonyi finished on 177/7, falling short by 20 runs. Wabwose’s all-round display earned him the Player of the Match award.

Olipa Gerald Fires Kyoga Avengers to Another Dominant Win

The afternoon encounter saw Kyoga Avengers extend their strong form with a convincing 34-run win over Victoria Strikers.

Kyoga posted 181/6 from their 20 overs, powered by another explosive performance from Olipa Gerald, who smashed 54 off 24 balls, including six towering sixes.

Cyrus Kakuru provided stability with a well-constructed 50 off 36 deliveries, while Conrad Lubwama added 29 and Juma Miyaji contributed 24 to keep the scoreboard moving at a strong rate.

Victoria Strikers found breakthroughs through Baidhu Ivan, who claimed three wickets, but Kyoga’s depth ensured a competitive total.

Chasing 182, Victoria Strikers struggled to maintain consistency despite individual contributions.

Robert Ajuna top-scored with 44 off 33 balls, while Jonathan Kiiza added 29 off 16 and Rwanda international  Theoneste Hakuziyaremye remained unbeaten on 25.

However, Kyoga’s disciplined bowling attack prevented any sustained partnerships, sharing wickets across the unit to restrict Victoria to 147/8.

Olipa Gerald also contributed with the ball, capping off a complete all-round performance that saw him named Player of the Match.
