The Western Region League has entered a decisive phase, with title glory secured at the top and an intense battle for survival unfolding across the rest of the table.

SC Volcanoes (Mutolere SC) are set to be officially crowned champions this Saturday, May 9, 2026, when they host fellow Kisoro side Gorilla Highlands Sports Club at Mashaka Playground. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM, with FUFA delegates expected to oversee the trophy handover in what promises to be a celebratory occasion for the home supporters.

Volcanoes have been the standout team this season, leading the table with 45 points and an impressive +39 goal difference from 15 matches. Their dominance has been consistent, highlighted by a commanding 6–0 victory over Gorilla Highlands in the first leg played on February 15.

Despite that heavy defeat, Gorilla Highlands approaches the derby with renewed determination. Currently sitting fifth on 14 points with a -6 goal difference, they remain firmly in contention for a top-four finish. However, the race is tight, with Makenke Barracks FC level on points and only separated by goal difference.

The contest for top-four positions remains highly competitive. Rwenshama FC, in fourth place with 15 points, are under pressure and could be overtaken if results go against them. Just below, Mbarara FC (13 points), Kabale City FC (12 points), and Asante Sports Club (12 points) are all within striking distance, turning the mid-table into a tightly packed contest where small margins could prove decisive.

At the top, Six O’clock FC (33 points) and Rwampara Bulls (25 points) occupy second and third place respectively, but both trail far behind the runaway leaders, underlining Volcanoes’ dominance this season.

At the other end of the table, the relegation battle remains equally intense. Kyihihi Young Boys sit bottom with just four points and a -14 goal difference, while Rukungiri United FC have already been eliminated from the league after missing three fixtures, in accordance with FUFA regulations.

With the title effectively decided, attention now shifts to the fight for top-four positions and the scramble to avoid relegation. As the league heads into its final fixtures, every point carries weight in a campaign that continues to deliver drama across the standings.
