Day Four of the Great Lakes Men’s T20 at Lugogo Cricket Oval delivered two key results, as Kyoga Avengers climbed further clear at the summit with a strong chase against Mburo Blasters, while Victoria Strikers finally broke their duck with a first win over Bunyonyi Warriors in the afternoon encounter.
Olipa Gerald inspires Kyoga Avengers in Mburo chase
In the morning fixture, Mburo Blasters were asked to bat first and posted a competitive 155/7 from their 20 overs.
Charles Musemeza anchored the innings with a fluent 54 off 38 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes. Suleman Sharif added valuable support with 41 from 30 deliveries, while Brian Asaba chipped in with 19 and Edwin Nuwagaba contributed 14.
Kyoga Avengers shared the bowling responsibilities effectively, with Richard Agamire picking up two wickets, while Juma Miyaji, Dan Keith Amani, and Olipa Gerald also struck crucial blows to limit Mburo to 155.
Chasing 156, Kyoga suffered an early setback with the loss of Ronald Lutaaya, but quickly regained control of the innings.
Player of the Match Olipa Gerald led the recovery with a destructive 48 off 27 balls, striking seven fours and a six. Robert Owili maintained the momentum with 36 off 23 deliveries, before Cyrus Kakuru held things together with an unbeaten 28.
Captain Juma Miyaji then finished the chase in style, hammering an unbeaten 31 off just 15 balls, featuring four boundaries and two sixes, as Kyoga reached 159/5 in 16.3 overs to seal victory with ease.
The win extended Kyoga Avengers’ flawless start, strengthening their position at the top of the table after four matches.
Victoria Strikers finally get off the mark
Victoria Strikers registered their first win of the tournament with a five-wicket victory over Bunyonyi Warriors in the afternoon game.
Batting first, Bunyonyi Warriors were restricted to 116 all out in 17.1 overs despite a few solid starts.
Robinson Obuya top-scored with 29 off 19 balls, while Simon Okecho also made 29 from 22 deliveries. Mulongo Paul added 16, but consistent wicket-taking from Victoria prevented any major partnerships from developing.
Victoria Strikers’ bowling attack was led by Christopher Kidega and Pius Oloka, both claiming three wickets apiece. Kidega impressed with 3 for 10, while Oloka returned outstanding figures of 3 for 9 from his four overs.
In reply, Victoria made a steady start through Simon Ssesazi and Eric Mukisa before captain Kenneth Waiswa anchored the innings with a composed 35 off 35 balls.
Christopher Kidega added a quick 15, while Pius Oloka capped a brilliant all-round performance with an unbeaten 23. Amos Ahurra then sealed the win with the final boundary as Victoria reached 120/5 in 16 overs.
Oloka Pius was named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round display, guiding Victoria Strikers to their first victory of the campaign.
