Okello, Namulumba Lead May Fortebet Real Stars Honours

Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello and Prisons Netball Club star Christine Namulumba Kango headlined the list of winners at the Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards for May.

The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday at Nanjing Restaurant in Kololo, where outstanding athletes from football, netball, athletics and chess were recognized for their exceptional performances during the month.

Okello, who was represented  by his manager Atubo Sultan, emerged as the football category winner ahead of SC Villa striker Charles Lwanga and Uganda Cubs captain Owen Mukisa. The Young Africans midfielder was rewarded following an outstanding run in the Tanzanian Premier League, where he scored seven goals during the month of May.

In netball, Namulumba beat competition from Police Netball Club’s Joan Nantumbwe and KCCA’s Margaret Bagala to claim the accolade. She was instrumental in helping Prisons Netball Club win the 2026 East Africa Netball Championship in Kenya.

Olympic medalist Peruth Chemutai was the winner in the athletics category. The steeplechase star earned recognition after a brilliant victory in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China, where she clocked 8:51.06 to finish ahead of reigning world champion Winfred Yavi.

Meanwhile, Alvin Muhirwa took home the chess award after beating Jacinta Mbabazi and Ronald Wabwire. The youngster was rewarded for his impressive gold medal-winning performance in the Under-16 category at the African Junior Chess Championship hosted in Uganda.
