Young Africans have confirmed the sale of Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello, just seven months after he joined the Tanzanian giants from Vipers.

Yanga president Hersi Said announced the decision on Saturday, saying the club had agreed to let the 26-year-old leave in search of a new challenge.

“Today, officially, we are going to sell our player Allan Okello. He has been part of this family, and today we are opening the door for him to go and look for greener pastures. But remember, Yanga is home, he will return here when we need him,” Hersi said.

Okello joined Yanga in January after an impressive spell at Vipers and wasted little time making an impact in Tanzania.

Despite arriving midway through the season, he finished the campaign as Yanga’s top scorer with 14 goals, helping the club maintain its dominance in Tanzanian football.

His performances attracted interest from clubs outside Tanzania, with Moroccan sides showing particular interest in the Ugandan international.

Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat are understood to be leading the race for his signature, although Yanga have not officially named the club involved in the transfer.

A move to AS FAR would see Okello take another step in his career after previously playing for KCCA FC, Paradou AC and Vipers.

He joined Paradou in Algeria in 2020 after making his name at KCCA before returning to Uganda and eventually signing for Vipers.

At Vipers, Okello became one of the country’s standout attacking players and played an important role in their domestic success before earning his move to Yanga.

His expected transfer to Morocco would also see him reunite with Pedro Gonçalves, who is understood to have been involved in the move and knows the player from his time in Tanzania.

For Yanga, Okello’s departure comes after a short but productive stay. The club will now have to find a way to replace the goals and creativity he provided during the second half of the season.

For the player, the move offers another opportunity to prove himself outside Uganda and Tanzania.
