African Renewal University secured a 2-0 victory over Muni University in the 2026 Pepsi University Football League (UFL), with Jimmy Bazanyi and Juma Kakaire scoring to guide the hosts to victory in Buloba.

Bazanyi broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 38th minute before Kakaire sealed the win with a late strike in the 89th minute, ensuring African Renewal University collected maximum points.

The hosts started brightly and came close to taking an early lead in the 12th minute when Musa Kenny Lubega struck the crossbar after connecting with Desmond Omara’s cross from the right flank.

African Renewal continued to push forward, with Bazanyi leading a counterattack that created another opportunity for Joel Mukiibi, whose long-range effort was cleared by the Muni defence.

However, the hosts eventually found the breakthrough through Bazanyi’s 38th-minute penalty, giving them a 1-0 advantage heading into the interval.

Muni University returned from the break determined to get back into the contest and came close to equalising in the 53rd minute. Simon Peter Mugisha broke through the African Renewal defence and set up captain Desire Oparwoth, but his powerful effort went wide.

African Renewal responded with dangerous counterattacks, although Bazanyi missed an opportunity to extend the lead in the 58th minute after being released by Mukiibi.

Mukiibi continued to create chances, delivering a superb ball over the top in the 65th minute that found Yovan Edema unmarked. Edema’s attempted cross, however, was cleared for a corner.

Despite enjoying spells of possession, Muni struggled to convert its opportunities as African Renewal remained organised defensively to protect its advantage.

The visitors continued searching for an equaliser, but Kakaire produced an important defensive intervention to deny Oparwoth after the Muni captain dribbled past Desmond Omara and shot from close range.

With Muni pushing forward in the closing stages, African Renewal took advantage of the space to deliver the decisive blow. Kakaire scored in the 89th minute to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond the visitors’ reach.

The victory was a reward for African Renewal University who registered their first ever victory in the University Football League featuring for the second consecutive season.
