Ugandan forward James Bogere delivered a match-winning performance with two superb goals to inspire Denmark’s AGF Aarhus to a 2-1 victory over Sabah FK of Azerbaijan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
Bogere broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark with a thunderous strike from the edge of the penalty area, sending the home supporters at Cepheus Park into celebration.
The Uganda Cranes international then doubled AGF’s advantage moments later, latching onto a perfectly weighted pass from Magnus Knudsen before firing a first-time effort into the far corner to complete his brace.
Sabah responded four minutes later when Veljko Simić converted Rakhmonaliev’s cutback to reduce the deficit and keep the tie finely balanced heading into the return leg.
The two teams will meet again in Baku, where the winner on aggregate will secure a place in the UEFA Champions League play-off round.
Bogere, who made his senior Uganda Cranes debut during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, continues to make a significant impact in his maiden campaign with the Danish outfit.
