Former Lady Rugby Cranes player and coach Helen Buteme has officially joined Uganda Premier League side Express FC who are in a bid to beef up their technical team ahead of the 2020/21 StarTimes UPL season.

Buteme joins the Red Eagles on a two-year deal as the strength and conditioning coach and will be tasked to improve players’ performance and fitness on the pitch.

Buteme acquired her conditioning license level B at Leipzig University and was the Lady Rugby Cranes 7s head coach from 2016 till she resigned in 2019.

“When I met the club CEO (Isaac Mwesigwa) at the beginning of this year, he told me about his plans for Express and this was basically to bring back its glory days. He also promised me that I would become the club’s strength and conditioning coach. he wanted me to join the technical team and take over the conditioning needs for the team,” She told the club website.

“It turned out to be a challenge that I couldn’t resist. So, I will be making sure that the players are in the best possible shape to execute the coach’s game plans and ensuring that they are as injury-free as possible. I will assist the medical team with the rehabilitation of injured players and make sure that the players are at their best,” she added.

She joins Ibrahim Musa Kinaabi who joined Express last month as the team doctor/physiotherapist.
