- Express FC vs KCCA FC
- Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo | Thursday, September 4, 2026 | 8pm
“We didn’t win the first game but we showed that we shall be a better team in future.”
Morley Byekwaso is demanding a response from his Express FC players when they face KCCA FC in a heavyweight clash at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Thursday night.
The Red Eagles went down 1-0 to BUL FC on Matchday One, but Byekwaso believes his young side can quickly turn things around against a KCCA team that also suffered defeat, losing 2-0 to NEC FC.
“KCCA are one of the strongest teams in the league. We both lost our first games and the second game is going to be very difficult for each team and we hope we shall be the best,” he said.
For Express to get the desired result, Byekwaso wants his players to be smarter with the ball and more disciplined tactically.
“We need to do our best tactically in an intelligent way, we need to dominate in possession. If we use all the aspects of the game properly we shall be victorious.”
The coach is building around a young squad and believes patience will eventually pay off.
“We are trying to build these young players and they are very good. If they keep on getting the chances, by the sixth game our team will be much stronger than it is now.”
The fixture also puts Byekwaso against his former employers and marks another milestone in his coaching career. He became the sixth coach to manage all three VEK clubs, SC Villa, Express and KCCA, joining Asuman Lubowa, Sam Ssimbwa, Polly Ouma, David Otti and Moses Basena.
Express will miss injured Moses Sseruyidde, while KCCA are sweating over Ibrahim Kasule’s fitness.
History gives KCCA the advantage. In 27 league meetings since 2012, KCCA have won 12 times, Express five, with 10 draws.
Express have managed just one home victory in that period, a 3-2 win in December 2018.
With both giants searching for their first points, Thursday’s Nakivubo showdown promises to be an early test of who can recover fastest from a losing start
