Mpasa picked up a loose ball inside the Express half, drove towards goal and fired past Mathias Kigonya from outside the box.

Express nearly levelled before the break, but Derrick Byabachwezi cleared Aaron Mutebi’s corner off the line.

Both sides created chances after the restart, but the goalkeepers stood firm. Kigonya made two important one on one saves, while Simon Achid missed two good chances for BUL.

The result handed Express coach Morley Byekwaso a losing start.
