The Federation of Algerian Football (FAF) has terminated the 2019/20 Algerian Ligue 1 Season after a member’s vote.
The Algerian Ligue 1 was suspended in March this year in order to curb the wide spreading of the highly deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
Ninety-six out of a hundred and twelve members (112) of the FAF voted to end the season with the current table standings considered as final and no team gets relegated to the Algeria Ligue 2.
As a result, CR Belouizdada will lift the 2019/20 trophy because they were atop the sixteen-team log before the suspension with 40 points, 3 above Es Setif, and MC Alger, while Mobilis, NC Magra, NA Hussein Dey, and US Biskra all survive relegation.
Allan Okello’s Paradou AC finishes 10th with 26 points garnered in 20 games.
Since no team will be relegated, FAF decided that the 2020/21 Algeria Ligue 1 season consists of 20 clubs with four clubs (Olympique Medea, JSM Skikda, WA Tlemcen, and RC Relizane) promoted to the country’s top league with 38 league days – which has not happened since the 1986-87 season.
Meanwhile, for the second division, it will have two groups (Eastern and Western) which will be composed of 18 clubs each.
