CAF Champions League: Lawal salvages point for Vipers against Raja

Nigerian forward Aboubakar Lawal netted for Vipers SC at the stroke of halftime to help Vipers pick up a 1-all statement with Raja Casablanca in a CAF Champions League game played at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

The Nigerian was at the end of Isa Mubiru’s cross to tap home from close range .

Lawal’s goal was a leveller for the Venoms who had fallen back courtesy of Soufiane Benjdida’s goal for Raja after 19 minutes.

The Venoms looked the better side of the game throughout the 90 as they created chance after chances, but unfortunately failed to convert.

Lawal hit the post while Bright Anukani, Martin Kizza and Yunus Sentamu failed to find the target on several occasions when they were set-up in incredible positions in the closing half.

All in all, it was a much improved performance for Vipers who lost the reverse fixture 5-0 in Morocco.

This result against Raja also means Vipers can’t qualify to the knockout stage of this competition as they sit bottom of the log with just two points in five games. They will play Horoya in their last group stages game.

It is an amazing and emotional experience – Ceferin
