2023 Africa Elite Boxing Championship: Bombers leave Cameroon with Seven medals

Uganda Boxing National team, the bombers are set to come back to Uganda from Yaoundé, Cameroon with seven medals.

The team that was Flagged off with 17 boxers will return with seven medals, five of which reached the Quaterfinals and other two (2)boxers reached the finals despite not winning.

The Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships started on 27 July and ended on 5th of August.

The African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) committee decided to pay each of the four losing quarter-finalists prize money of $1,250 and the gold medallists $15,000.

The silver medal winners and  bronze medallists’ prize money remained 10,000 dollars and 5000 dollars respectively.

This means Wasswa Ssali and Erina Namutebi will return home with each $10000 (Shs. 36m).

For the bronze medalists Ukasha Matovu (Welterweight), Ronald Okello(middle weight), Solomon Geko (Super heavyweight), Grace Nankinga and Lady’s captain Emily Nakalema they will each come home with $5000(Shs. 18m).

Quarterfinalists Muzamir Ssemuddu, James Baraka, Lawrence Kayiwa and Sharua Ndagire will also clinch $1250(shs. 4.5m).

However all this money won by the boxers will be taxed. 10 percent will be given to the coaches while 20 percent will go to the federations.

The team who will board Ethiopian airways will reach Entebbe in the wee hours of the night, five minutes to 1 a.m on Monday 7th August.
