Wasswa Ssali settles for Silver after losing in the finals against Sogwayi Sanele of South Africa in the Africa Elite Boxing Championship in Cameroon.
Lukanga Boxing Club had defeated three opponents from the preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals to fight Sogwayi.
He boxed out Irungu Maina (Kenya) in the round of 16, Naba Ousmane (Burkina Faso) and Idris Kitangila( DRC) at the semis.
The lightweight boxer is now assured of $10000 (Ug. shs. 36m) after finishing Second with Silver.
He joins a bracket of five boxers who already clinched medals in Solomon Geko (Heavyweight), Erinah Namutebi -so far -(light welterweight), Â Nakalema Emily (welterweight), Ronald Okello (middleweight) and Ukasha Matovu (welterweight) all with bronze.
The country will now wait on UPDF’s Erina Namutebi who is in final after boxing Mozambique’s Mulongo Sandra in the semifinals after a Referee Stop contest.
