Joel Wampamba and Fredrick Ssonko were on scoresheet as Kampala International University cruised  to a 2-1 win over Kumi University in the University Football League match played at Kumi University playground on Thursday evening.

The game was  played under high weather degrees with too much sunshine in the East. This saw KIU team play at a high tempo and attack in numbers but the Kumi University defense worked together to contain the pressure.

Kumi got the game’s goalscoring opportunity in the 20th minute but Omoding’s header was weak for the KIU goalkeeper to  collect calmly.

The game was forced into a water break in 25th minutes due to un favourable heating conditions. Immediately  after the water break, Kumi’s James Ochegere set up Edweu whose powerful effort was deflected for a corner.

Wampamba Joel pounced onto a loose ball to tap in from close range in the 45th minute of the game and gift the visitors a halftime lead.

Kumi University came back for the second half with a high pressing game and their efforts were yielded  an equalizing goal from James Okema eight minutes after the restart of the game.

Muftau Yinusa had a chance to put Kumi University ahead but his effort went well wide in the 60th minute.

Substitute Ssonko Fredrick netted the second goal for KIU in the 79th minute, two minutes after his introduction into the game by coach Akabwai Geoffrey.

Kumi University tried hard to secure a point from the game but they failed because time was not on their side as the game ended 2-1 in favor of KIU.

This is now KIU’s second win away at Kumi having won the same fixture 2-1 last season and lost  3-2 at home in Nsambya.

KIU are now second in group B behind UCU who lead on a better goal difference.
