The 2024/25 University Football League season returns on Thursday 19th September as Makerere University kick off new campaign against a stubborn Victoria University side at the Makerere University play grounds on Thursday evening.
This is going to be a Group B clash that is set to turn heads after Makerere were boasted by the return of their head coach Kasozi William who believes his side is ready, prepared and determined to be victors this season;
“Sometimes its good to leave home once in a while then return with a bit more experience outside home” a motivated Kasozi said.
“Am happy to be back home and it feels good my target is to win the tournament. the boys are ready, we have worked hard and have prepared them well” he added
“Their is plenty of things am going to introduce, so its going to be different in our approach and we shall work hard to win the game not because our opponents are weak but because we have prepared well” he concluded
The new team captain Makerere University Okwong Emmanuel also managed to announce his target of the season;
“My targets as a midfielder is to be the top assister of the tournament as we head into this new season.” He announced
“As a team, we are much prepared for the challenge ahead and so determined to be victors”
The 2012 Champions managed to make it to the Quarter final stage last season but were knocked out by Uganda Christian University (UCU) on away goals rule after the game ended ( MUK 2-1 UCU)(UCU 1-0 MUK) 2-2 on aggregate.
Their opponents on the day, Victoria University will hope to improve on their 2023/24 League performance where they didn’t leave Group B where they were alongside IUIU, MUBS and YMCA.
The 2024/25 UFL season kicked off on Tuesday 17th September with UCU playing out a 1-1 draw with St Lawrence University.
