Uganda Cup reigning Champions, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women Football Club have unveiled a new Club CEO, Coaching staff and new players ahead of the the 2023/24 season at the St Gerald Stadium VIP Lounge in Lubaga.
All this was done with the help of the Club President Brother Leonard Kasozi Gomba who personally appointed Freda Ayerango to replace Ivor Sempa Kimbugwe who left the Club a few months back.
After she was appointed, a happy Ayerango came out to show her excitement and readiness saying that;
“I am very happy I would like to thank the fans and as a team, we have been working hard but promise to be working hardest to make sure that we make Uganda Martyrs Women Football Club the best club it should always be.” she said
And added that “I am glad the team entrusted me with this role and more glad that I was given a big team to work with that everyone will get to know in the course of the new season”
Away from the CEO, Rodgers Nkugwa returned to the club as their new headcoach since bringing them to the top flight.
Nkugwa who was head coach at Asubo Gafford Ladies in the previous FUFA Women Super League campaign helped his former side stay up and the fans will hope he can carry all his experience to the Lubaga side.
While addressing the media a satisfied Nkugwa said that he wants to take the league and promises to start up his third reign with a win;
“Am happy and satisfied for giving a chance to return home, it’s not the first time like everyone knows I brought this to the top flight from the regional League.” he said
“The team is in good condition and we are prepared for the new season and want to take the league and we have the ability to do so.” she
“Thé Prèsident has given me everything including the powers to sign the players and coaches too”
“On Sunday, we open our campaign against Kampala Queens, it won’t be a nightmare or dream I just want to promise that we are going to Lugogo and collect three points.”
He will be working with assistant Buyinza Rajab and Goal keeping coach Derrick Kasumba
On the players side, Uganda Martyrs unveiled eight players, four of which were home grown promoted from the Junior to the senior side and the other four were bought from three different clubs as listed below;
Catherine Namawejje(Gk), Catherine Nyiyonshuti, Nanvule Deborah alias Kante, Comfort Achulu all from the junior team.
Nakalyowa Shamina (Byafaayo), Shakira Nagudi(Asubo Gafford), Nabilah Nakitto (Asubo Gafford) and Sharon Kanyigina (Tooro Queens).
The 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League will kickstart on Saturday 14th October with UCU Lady Cardinals hosting Lady Doves in Mukono
However Uganda Martyrs will start theirs away to Kampala Queens on Sunday 15th October at the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo .
