Transfers: Azam express interest in snapping up Ugandan shot stopper

NBC Tanzanian Premier League side Azam FC have expressed interest in snapping up Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Charles Lukwago from St. George in January, Touchline Sports understand.

Lukwago, who has less than a year left on his contract at the Ethiopian Premier League side is reportedly not happy with the club due to minimum playing time.

The Ugandan goalkeeper has not started any of the club’s last five league games, with the coaches opting for Bahiru Negasha.

Last season, Lukwago was voted BetKing Ethiopia Premier League best goalkeeper after he guided St. George to the first league title in three seasons.

The Cranes shot stopper posted a record 20 clean-sheets in 27 games catapult the team to the top of the table.

If Lukwago’s deal with Azam does materialize, the Ugandan goalkeeper will battle with Wilbol Maseke, Ali Ahamada and Ahmed Ali Suleiman for number one spot.

Azam FC sit third on the NBC Premier League log with 37 points in 18 games.
