This week had quite a number of interesting stories – former Rugby player cum coach, Helen Buteme switched from Rugby to football, then FUFA finally confirmed that it would be giving out funds to its members as cover for the financial losses registered during the coronavirus crisis, while Express FC also did what Vipers did to them to Onduparaka FC after unveiling another player – Here are this week’s stories on the Timeline with Kamardin Shero.

Onduparaka FC acquires Jerry Jakisa, Nebbi Central cry foul

Startimes Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka FC completed the signing of former Nyamityobora defender Jakisa Jerry on a two-year employment contract. Jakisa became the second signing for the Caterpillars, coming after completing the signing of Bonny Musema.

However, Regional League side Nebbi Central later came out to protest the decision to sign a player who still had a running contract by the Arua based side.

Express adds former Lady rugby Cranes coach to their technical team

Express FC officially confirmed the appointment of Former Lady rugby Cranes player and coach Helen Buteme as the club’s new strength and conditioning coach ahead of the 2020/21 StarTimes UPL season.

The level B conditioning coach joined the Red Eagles on a two-year employment contract.

She arrived with a promise to have all Express FC players in the right shape by the time the league returns.

FUFA confirmed the distribution of COVID relief funds to MAs and Clubs

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations approved the appropriation of the Covid19 Relief funds to its Member Associations (MAs) and clubs after an executive meeting that sat on Monday.

According to this plan, Shs. 526,720,000 will be granted to the 16 UPL Clubs with each receiving Shs. 32,920,000 while the UPL secretariate will receive Shs. 52m, after a decision in line with FIFA COVID–19 Relief Plan Regulations was taken.

Second division clubs, the FUFA Big League teams will also get Shs. 15m each, Shs. 2m for each regional league club.

The plan also appropriated how Member Associations including the UBSA, FAU, DFAs among others will benefit from this grant.

Ugandan Striker joins newly-promoted English championship side

Uganda Cranes striker Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru joined English Championship newcomers Wycombe Wanderers on a three-year deal from Hearts FC.

He becomes the first signing in the ongoing window for Wycombe who beat Oxford in playoffs to earn the England Championship Promotion from League One.

Uche scored 2 goals in 23 games last season before the league was ended due to Covid19 pandemic.

Sentume renews contract with Police FC

Police FC captain Joseph Sentume renewed his contract with the Cops for three more years.

The Center back joined Yusuf Ssozi, Johnson Odong, Mubrakah Nsubuga, Edward Kiryowa, Musa Matovu and Denis Rukundo who also extended their stay at the Kibuli based club.

Yassar Mugerwa terminates contract with Sehul, signs for Sidama

Less than a day after terminating his contract with Sehul Shire FC, Ugandan Midfielder Yassar Mugerwa was confirmed as Sidama Buna’s new signing.

Mugerwa joined Ethiopian Premier League outfits who finished fourth last season on a one-year deal.

CAF announces new dates for AFCON, World Cup qualifiers

CAF: $10.8M relief to be advanced to MAs, competitions return dates to be announced

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) confirmed new dates for the 2021 AFCON and 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier games.

It was confirmed that matchday 3 and 4 of the AFCON qualifiers will take place between 9th and 17th November, while matchday 5 and 6 are scheduled for 22nd – 30th March 2021.

For the 2022 FIFA world cup qualifiers, the matches will begin in May 2021 and conclude in November 2021 with a knockout phase to decide the 5 that will represent Africa.

Vipers appoint Former FIFA referee as maiden Sporting director

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC announced the appointment of Former FIFA referee Charles Masembe as their maiden sporting director.

Masembe joined the Venoms a few weeks after Simon Njuba was appointed as the club’s new CEO and is tasked with creating a favorable environment for both the players and coaches at the club.

Abel Eturude joins Express, Nyakuni cry’s fouls

Abel Eturude is still our player, Benjamin Nyakuni

Midfielder Abel Eturude completed a move to Express FC on a two-year employment contract, becoming the club’s fourth signing of the ongoing transfers window.

However, shortly after being unveiled, Onduparaka FC boss Benjamin Nyakuni came out to state that the midfielder was still a Caterpillar and did not know how he had been unveiled by the Wankulukuku based club.

“Abel Eturude is still our player. He is still contracted at Onduparaka FC and we haven’t released him,” Nyakuni told The Touchline Sports.

Ssembuya signs a 3-year contract with Police FC

Youngster Arnold Ssembuya penned down a three-year deal with StarTimes UPL side Police FC on Thursday evening.

The midfielder became the club’s seventh signing thus far following the club’s acquisition of Eric Ssenjobe, Hassan Mahmood, Sammon Oloka, Muwadda Mawejje, Tom Ikara and Tony Mawejje.

Vipers SC finally starts offloading the excess

 

Vipers SC finally started offloading players that they don’t need ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Midfielder Brian Nkuubi, goalkeeper Derrick Ochan, defender Dan Birikwalira, and Farouq Musisi were the players released by the Kitende based club.

Tito Okello also left Vipers after negotiations to renew contract fell through and the lanky forward.

BUL FC beefs up squad with 5 new players

BUL FC continued to bolster their squad with new players ahead of the 2020-21 StarTimes UPL season with five new players.

The Jinja based club added Kenneth Kibbale Elvis, Douglas Bithum, Paul Mbazira, Peter Ozima and Davis Mutebi to their team.

Kenneth, Bithum , Mbazira and Ozima joined the club from Edgars Football Club while goalkeeper Davis Mutebi joined from Uganda Premier league outfits Police FC.

Mutebi and Mbazira will play for the Jinja based side for next two seasons while the other three ( Kibbale, Bithum and Ozima) join the club on loan until the end of next season.

Ismaily won’t extend Kaddu’s loan deal

Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily Soccer Club decided not to extend Cranes striker, Patrick Kaddu’s deal.

The forward joined the club on loan in Morocco’s RS Berkane Januray, however, his contract expired on 30th June, but the Mango Boys turned down the option to retain the former KCCA FC forward on a permanent basis.

Kaddu will now return to Berkane since he still has a two-year running contract.

Express unveils fifth signing, announces a partnership with Cab company SPESHO

Six-time UPL champions Express unveiled forward Kiragga Mustafa as their fifth signing of the ongoing transfers window ahead of the 2020-21 StarTimes UPL Season.

The 19-year old joined the Red Eagles on a two-year deal from Alexandria FC in South Africa.

Later on in the day, the Wakulukuku club announced that they had entered into a partnership with one of Uganda’s new transportation companies SPESHO Taxi for the next two years.

Caterpillars add 3 to their squad

Onduparaka FC confirmed the signing of three new players ahead of the 2020/21 UPL season. The trio included Centre back Augustine Akoch (Light SS) and Midfielders, Jasper Okello and Nelson Opio (both from Saviors FC)

Akoch signed a two-year contract and is expected to remain at the Greenlight until 2022.while Midfielders Jasper Okello and Nelson Opio signed one year and three year contracts respectively.

Kimera extends his Cop’s marriage

Left-footed winger Ruben Kimera extended his stay at Uganda Premier league outfits Police FC for atleast two more years.

The winger who contract had expired, put pen to paper on a two-year extensions deal on Saturday evening at the Police offices in Kibuli.

He becomes the club’s ninth payer to renew his contract after Joseph Ssentume, Edward Kiryowa, Joseph Odong, Musa Matovu, Mubarak Nsubuga, Yusuf Ssozi, Dennis Rukundo and Bashir Kabuye all extended their Cop’s marriage.

KCCA lets go of shot stopper Malyamungu

KCCA FC confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Jamil Malyamungu after three years of service.

Malyamungu joined KCCA in 2017 from Maroons FC but spent the better part of his stay at Lugogo as an understudy goalkeeper to Charles Lukwago.

KCCA FC now remains  Charles Lukwago, Ali Mwirusi and returnee Hassan Matovu as the club’s goalkeepers. Tom Ikara was also released a few weeks ago.
