Back to back Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers SC will face FUFA Big League side Police FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Final.

This will be Alex Isabirye’s third consecutive Uganda Cup final just like it will be for Vipers SC with huge hope for a win.

While this will be a unfamiliar stage for Police since they last lifted a trophy in 2005 and 2006 respectively winning the Uganda Premier League and CECAFA Cup, they will look to lift themselves up to clinch a trophy.

Vipers SC who have not scored many goals in this tournament knocked out a number of teams to reach this stage.

The teams include Bujumbura United FC (round of 64), Jinja North United FC (round of 32), Wakiso Giants FC (round of 16), Calvary FC (Quater final) and Soltilo Bright Stars (Semi-Final)

On the other hand, Police eliminated Apuutun FC, Pajule Lions FC, Ndejje University FC, BUL FC and Adjumani TC FC on the different stages to reach the finals.

On Wednesday morning at the FUFA House in Mengo both teams were well represented by their respective coaches in Richard Wasswa (Vipers) and Angelo Lonyesi (Police FC).

Talking to the Press, Wasswa came out to show that his side will look to take home the double when they face Police;

“As Vipers we won’t look at the fact that we are playing a FUFA Big League side because in football anything can happen. We are playing a team we think is good enough to compete at this level.” he said

“After missing out on the trophy last year to BUL in Masindi this time round I think we should take this opportunity to make sure we win this trophy to complete the double” he added

On the other side, Angelo Lonyesi also came out to say his side is not scared and want the trophy;

“We have really prepared very well and this is not the first time Police at a final and won it.” he said

“A final is a final we are going to play like we have been playing all competition and therefore we won’t be scared and really want the trophy however much the other side want the double.” he concluded

The Final will be played on Saturday, 3rd June 2023, at the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium, Lira.
