Stanbic Uganda Cup: NEC eliminate Police to become first team in last four

Police FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to NEC at Kavumba in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, crashing out of the competition as the diehard NEC fans celebrated their progress to the semifinals of the oldest national football tournament in Uganda.

Cromwel Rwothomio opened the scoring for NEC in the 4th minute with his first goal of the League Cup season.

The striker connected with Rashid Okocha’s cross from the left and expertly looped the ball past Police goalkeeper Edward Kasibante to give NEC the lead.

With only ten minutes remaining in the game, Gadaffi Wahab extended NEC’s lead by converting a penalty after Marvin Kavuma was fouled in the forbidden area.

This goal sealed the victory for NEC, becoming the first team in the Stanbic Uganda Cup last four this edition.

In the upcoming quarterfinal matches, Pajule Lions will face Pakwach Young Stars in Pader, KCCA will take on BUL at Njeru, and Vipers will travel to Masindi to play Kitara on Sunday, April 14.
