Stanbic Uganda Cup: Vipers beat Police to finally win double

After failing short in 2022, Vipers have finally won both the Stanbic Uganda Cup and StarTimes Uganda Premier League in just one season.

This is after skipper Milton Karisa scored the all-important goal for Vipers to defeat Police FC 1-0 in the Uganda Cup final played on Saturday at the Aki Bua Stadium in Lira.

Karisa’s goal came in the 15th minute of the goal after heading in a well driven-in Bright Anukani’s cross

And that goal proved to be the winner as both sides failed to score in the rest of the 75 minutes despite having a couple of chances at goal.

The Cop’s best goal-scoring chance of the game fell to Emmanuel Mugume in the opening half, but the forward agonizingly failed to find the target when he came one-on-one against Fabien Mutombora – the Vipers’ goalkeeper.

While Karisa and substitute Karim Ndugwa had huge chances for the Venoms in the closing half, but got denied by Police goalkeeper Davis Mutebi.

Vipers now join KCCA, SC Villa and Express as the only other Ugandan teams that have ever won the domestic double.

Alex Isabirye also win his fourth Uganda Cup trophy after having won with BUL, URA FC and Victoria University.
