Kitara FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa has stressed the importance of winning this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup, describing the competition as the club’s quickest route back to continental football.

Bbosa made the remarks ahead of Kitara’s highly anticipated final against SC Villa set for Saturday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

“We badly need the Stanbic Uganda Cup,” Bbosa said during the pre-match press conference.

“Unlike the league which is a marathon, the Uganda Cup is a shortcut to continental football and we badly need it.”

The experienced tactician believes his side has what it takes to overcome record league champions SC Villa despite acknowledging the challenge awaiting his team.

“Everyone that reaches the final expects victory and we are very determined to win Saturday’s battle,” he noted.

“Villa is a prolific team with good players and a good technical team, but for us we handle every game depending on the opponents and we hope for a better game.”

Kitara will, however, head into the final without key players Isaac Amutuhaire and Edward Namaasa, who are both sidelined through injury.

Bbosa also dismissed concerns over the late change of venue from FUFA Stadium, Kadiba to the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, insisting the playing surface will not affect his side.

“Playing on the AstroTurf is everyone’s desire because all pitch standards are the same. Whoever utilizes the chances better and assembles a formidable squad will emerge victorious,” he explained.

Kitara reached the final after eliminating defending champions Vipers SC on the away goals rule following a 1-1 aggregate result across two legs.

Victory on Saturday would hand Kitara their second major trophy and secure qualification to the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
