SC Villa secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Maroons FC on Thursday evening to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The Round of 16 clash at FUFA Kadiba Stadium was decided by substitute Andrew Otim, who scored the winner in the 74th minute.
After a tightly contested first half with limited chances, Maroons returned stronger after the break but failed to convert their opportunities. SC Villa responded with a triple substitution in the 70th minute, introducing Otim, Charles Lwanga, and Bayo Ali a move that quickly paid off.
Lwanga’s low cross was mishandled by goalkeeper Simon Tamale, allowing Otim to tap home the decisive goal.
Villa nearly added a second late on, with Otim denied and Najib Yiga hitting the post.
The result sends SC Villa into the last eight, joining KCCA FC, Vipers SC, Kitara FC, NEC FC, and Happy Boys Kagaba.
