NBL: JKL Lady Dolphins win third title


JKL Lady Dolphins won the 2023 National Basketball League playoff after beating KIU Rangers at the NCS Indoor Arena, Lugogo on Sunday evening.

JKL topped the game 4-1 in the best of seven series to win their third NBL Title after winning game FIVE 68-50.

This season was a bit of revenge after finishing as runners-up last season after they lost to a UCU Lady Canons side that was led by Rose Akon.

After the game, Hope Akello who was named Most Valuable Players led the Lady Dolphins with a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. 

However Ritah Imanishimwe and Brenda Ekone to contributed to the scoreline on the day scoring 15 and 13 points respectively.

For KIU Rangers, Rose Amaniyo put up 14 points with Ines Kanyamunza scoring 11 just like Perus Nyamwenge.

Akello was named MVP and also included in the NBL team of the campaign alongside KIU’s Ninette Uwineza, Perus Nyamwenge, Amaniyo Mary and Sarah Ageno of the JT Jaguars.

This means that the JKL Lady Dolphins will represent Uganda at the upcoming FIBA Zone Five Women’s Championship that will be held in Kigali later in October 2023.

For the men play-off final, KIU Titans put City Oil’s title celebrations on hold after they won game FIVE 65-62 to force game SIX.

Before the game, City Oilers we’re leading 3-1 and now it’s at 3-2 in the best -of – Seven which means both sides still have a chance to win the title.
