URA Ladies bounced back from their opening-day defeat in emphatic fashion, securing their first-ever victory in the FUFA Women Super League with a 2-0 win over Makerere University WFC on Saturday.

The newly promoted side put behind them the disappointment of a 3-0 loss to KCCA Women FC on Matchday One, producing a dominant first-half display at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, to collect their maiden top-flight points.

Elizabeth Nakigozi broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, giving URA the reward their bright start deserved. Thirteen minutes later, Shafiga Tamisi doubled the advantage to send the Women Tax Collectors into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

URA managed the game effectively after the interval to secure a landmark victory under head coach Moses Nkata.

The result provided an immediate response to their opening-day setback and gave the newcomers a first taste of victory in Uganda’s top division.

While URA celebrated, two of the league’s established sides were held to goalless draws.

Defending champions Kawempe Muslim LFC were unable to reproduce the attacking display that saw them defeat Jinja United Women 3-0 on the opening weekend. The Valley Warriors were frustrated by a disciplined She Maroons side at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, as the contest ended 0-0.

She Maroons, who had opened their campaign with a 3-0 away victory over Rines SS, showed another side of their game by keeping Kawempe Muslim at bay and securing a valuable point.

KCCA Women FC also failed to maintain their winning momentum. After beginning the campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly promoted URA Ladies, KCCA were held to a 0-0 draw by St Noa Girls FC at MTN Omondi Stadium.

The stalemate denied KCCA a second consecutive victory, while St Noa earned a point against one of the league’s leading sides.

In Iganga, She Corporate FC secured their first three points of the campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Jinja United WFC.

Jinja United took the lead through Patricia Babirye, but She Corporate responded through Jesca Namanya. The forward struck in the 40th minute to restore parity before completing her brace in the 62nd minute to turn the game around.

The victory marked She Corporate’s first win of the season, while Jinja United were left searching for their first points after suffering defeats in their opening two matches.

Matchday Two action was set to conclude on Sunday, with Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC hosting Rines SS WFC at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, while Amus College WFC welcomed Lady Doves FC at Amus Stadium in Bukedea.

For URA Ladies, attention now turns to their next assignment against Lady Doves FC on October 17 at the Katusabe Dove Playground. Makerere University WFC will meanwhile host KCCA Women FC on the same day.
