In a thrilling finale at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium, Kenya crowned themselves champions of the T20 Africa Continental Cup (ILT20) after securing a commanding 39-run victory over arch-rivals Uganda on September 19, 2026.
A masterful, disciplined bowling performance in the second innings completely dismantled Uganda’s chase, ensuring Kenya lifted the prestigious trophy in style.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Kenya looked determined to set a high benchmark in the final. They navigated the Ugandan bowling attack with composure, building crucial partnerships throughout their 20 overs.
Dhiren Gondaria anchored the top order with a fiery 44 runs, providing the explosive momentum Kenya needed. Despite Uganda picking up wickets at regular intervals to break the flow, Kenya’s middle and lower orders fought hard to maintain a high run rate. Kenya concluded their innings at a formidable 170/7 in 20.0 overs, laying down a challenging target for the Cricket Cranes.
Faced with a target of 171, Uganda’s chase started with intent but quickly unravelled under relentless pressure from the Kenyan bowling unit.
Uganda’s star batsman Riazat Ali Shah played a heroic lone-hand innings, smashing a brilliant 53 runs to keep his side’s hopes alive.
However, he lacked sustained support from the other end. Kenya’s bowlers gave nothing away, striking at regular intervals to deny Uganda any meaningful partnerships.
The bowling onslaught was spearheaded by Sachin Gill and Lucas Oluoch, who both ran through the Ugandan lineup to claim 3 wickets each. Their clinical spells tore through the middle and lower order, leaving Uganda completely breathless.
Uganda was ultimately bundled out for 131 runs in 17.5 overs, falling short by 39 runs as the Kenyan players erupted into wild celebrations on the field.
