By Kitara FC have received a Ugx 150 million boost from the government ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash with Mogadishu City.
The National Council of Sports (NCS) has released the money to support the Royals’ preparations for their continental campaign.

The Ugx 150 million is Ugx 50 million short of the Ugx 200 million requested by club president Deo Kasozi in a letter to NCS dated August 25. Still, the funding will ease the club’s financial burden as they prepare for their first continental assignment.
Kitara will face Mogadishu City in the first preliminary round, with both legs scheduled for Hoima City Stadium. The Royals are also expected to meet the visiting Somali side’s expenses while in Uganda, as Kasozi recently stated.
The government funding will come alongside a $100,000 CAF grant to help Kitara meet the costs of competing in the preliminary rounds.
The support comes after NCS General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel hosted Kitara officials in Lugogo on Monday, August 24, as the council backed the club ahead of its domestic and continental engagements.
Ogwel also handed Kitara footballs to support their preparations.
Kitara now turn their attention to Mogadishu City, knowing that a place in the next round could set up a meeting with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The Royals will hope the financial boost can help them put together a strong campaign as they seek to make an impression on their continental debut.
It remains to be seen whether Vipers SC, who will represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League, will receive similar government support.
