It will be a judgement day in group C of the 2023 Futsal Uganda Cup on Friday evening as all four teams will all be vying for the top two positions in order to secure a quarterfinal slot.
Pitch Pirates currently hold the advantage in the group as they currently sit top with six points garnered in their two games. On Friday, they face a Mengo City side who sit third with three points.
Kisenyi FC, who sit second with three points will battle God’s Glory-Katale who are bottom with no points, but still have a slim chance to qualify.
With all four teams still in contention, there is still plenty to be decided, which includes several scenarios that could involve tiebreakers coming into play to decide the two teams that make it to the quarters.
If Mengo City beats Pitch Pirates, they will move to six points- level with their Friday’s opponents. Kisenyi could also move to six points if they defeat God’s Glory-Katale early on in the day.
That means all three teams will be level on six points from their three games, and will need a couple of tie breaker to separate them.
Futsal Association Uganda competition rules and regulations are clear to guide on the number of potential tiebreaker scenarios in which teams could finish tied on points at the top.
Below you will find the official list of tiebreakers as stipulated in Article 23 of the Futsal Association of Uganda (FAU) rules and regulations.
- Should two or more teams finish tied on points in the standings, their final position on the table shall be determined on head-to-head results where results between the teams involved will be used to determine the best team.
- If the two or more teams have the same head to head record, then fair play table will be used to separate the teams involved.
- An if the two teams can’t still be separated, a mini league or playoff will be used to determine the best team of the league. The involved teams will verse each other in games to decide the winner.
