The Futsal Association of Uganda (FAU) has officially opened registration for the 2026 Primary Schools Futsal League, inviting primary schools across the country to enter teams and take part in what promises to be a milestone youth sports programme.

As the academic year begins, FAU is placing a strategic emphasis on engaging the youngest athletes in competitive futsal—a fast-paced, technically demanding form of indoor football. The initiative aims not only to promote physical activity but also to nurture key life skills such as teamwork, confidence, discipline, and decision-making among pupils.

A League with Dual Purpose: Sport and Development

According to FAU, the Primary Schools Futsal League is designed as more than just a competition. It serves as a developmental platform where education meets sport, encouraging young learners to grow both on and off the court.

Participating teams will compete in age-appropriate categories, with boys’ and girls’ teams segmented into junior and senior brackets. The junior categories focus on fun, coordination, and basic ball mastery, while the senior divisions introduce tactical awareness and competitive spirit—all tailored to the developmental needs of the pupils.

FAU officials emphasise that the league structure aligns with broader youth development strategies. Futsal’s small-sided format (with a heavier ball, unlimited substitutions, and constant player involvement) accelerates skill acquisition and builds confidence faster than traditional 11-a-side formats.

Schools Welcome Registration

Primary schools interested in participating are encouraged to officially confirm their interest with FAU. Registration is open to schools nationwide that are prepared to embrace the fast-paced world of indoor football, with opportunities for pupils to compete for trophies, medals, and certificates.

In launching this initiative, FAU continues its long-term strategy to strengthen futsal from the grassroots level, a vision supported by broader development efforts that include youth tournaments and integration of the sport into school sports calendars.

The 2026 Primary Schools Futsal League is expected to play a central role in identifying and nurturing Uganda’s next generation of futsal talent, as the sport gains momentum and grows its footprint at both the youth and national levels.
