We are looking at playing without he Uganda Flag - Babirye Kityo on UNF-NCS Divorce

With confirmation of a document, arguably Uganda’s most successful Federation, UNF in recent history is no longer recognized by government and Sarah Babirye Kityo is not about to let this go down the drain.

This follows a decision taken by National Council of Sports to withdraw the Federation’s certificate of recognition on Wednesday 25th October 2023.

However, today, Thursday 26th October, 2023 morning, Uganda Netball Federation ‘President’ Sarah Babirye Kityo apeared to be drunk on confidence as she spoke about the possibility of participating in International competitions without the Uganda National Flag as a way forward amidst all the wrangles;

“We have summoned, teams for both men and ladies in preparation for African championship, training will soon resume,”  she said before adding, “Uganda Netball federation is a private entity which isn’t owned by government and what was taking us to them is their support.”

“ We have sought for an opinion on playing as Uganda Netball Federation without carrying the Uganda Flag.” she conclude.

Uganda was declared the host of the 2023 Netball Africa Cup earlier this year but have since withdrawn from hosting the prestigious tournament that starts in nearly a month from now.

Sarah who apologized to different Netball sponsorship partners for dragging them into this mess made it clear that they will run the League as the executive and be in charge of the team to represent Uganda at the Africa Netball championships.

It should be noted that the National Council has already communicated a way forward citing the formation of a normalisation committee to the Federation that has been under the leadership of Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso, at least by recent administrative recognition.

The She Cranes, the best netball team in Africa have their chances of playing at this year’s edition hanging in balance. In all that is taking place, that could be the worst undoing to the game.
