FUFA WSL: She Makerere and She Corporate share spoils in League opener

0

Defending league champions She Corporate FC collect 1-1 draw from the Makerere grounds as they played against host She Makerere in league opener.

In a game that was played on a wet Saturday evening, the biggest moment of the game was taken up by goalkeeper Fatma Matovu after she saved She Makerere’s decisive penalty in the second half of the game.

The two goals of the game were scored by new signing Spencer Nakacwa for the sharks and Daphine Nalubowa for the She Makerere.

Into the game,

It was She Corporate who were had the less odd and indeed started the game on the front foot as they constantly pounded on to the home team’s defense with couple of shots blocked in the first ten minutes, the most notable one being that of their top scorer last season Nambatya Favour which was blocked by centre back Stella Namisango.

Onwards, the proceedings looked balanced. The question would be was it because of the state of the playing surface? or both teams were on the same level, but no reply would answer what many thought before the game was played. The former Lady doves forward Nakacwa scored the first goal of the season as the Sharks took a 44th minute lead after running through on goal.

In the second half, She Makerere came back with a better mentality than the Sharks threatening their goal on a number of occasions with Margret Namirimu clearing one off the goal line but still it wasn’t enough as the hosts got their equalizer eight minutes later.

The goal was full of art as it was looped into the right top corner of the goal by Daphine Nalubowa after a beautiful cross from the hosts assistant captain Yudaya Nalubega.

This goal motivated the home side who kept on pushing until the Sharks were pushed into panic as the hosts on the other side received their reward of a penalty with 20 minutes left on the clock after Namirimu handled the ball inside the area.

The top scorer of the 2021/22 FUFA Women Elite League Sharon Namatovu with 13 goals stood up to take it but was denied by goalkeeper Fatma Akim Matovu who swiftly put out her ball after diving on the left.

As the game came to its closure, She Corporate woke up once again as they took the ball to the home team with Joan Ainembabazi squandering a chance and reigning league MVP hitting the bar after getting a good ball from right back Cissy Nakate.

At full-time, both teams took home a points something that portrayed the right picture of a league opening game which was attended by FUFA third vice-president Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi.
