Diaspora: Mpande, Edrisa and Onen all on target as Waiswa assists – how Ugandan professionals abroad fared over the weekend


Joseph Mpande, Edrisa Lubega and Jayden Onen struck for their respective clubs while Moses Waisswa returned to Supersport’s playing team with an assist – here’s how Ugandan players in the diaspora fared over the weekend with Kamardin Shero.

Starting off in Turkey, Farouk Miya started and played full-time as Konyaspor lost 2-1 to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super Lig game played at the Konya Metropolitan stadium.

In Estonia, Edrisa Lubega was on target for Paide Linnameskond as they thrashed Kuressaare FC in the Estonian Meistriliiga. The Ugandan forward scored in the 72nd minute just before he was withdrawn.

In Sweden, Both Ronald Mukiibi and Isaak Ssewankambo played full-time as Ostersunds FK lost 3-0 to Mjällby AIK in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Ritah Kivumbi was a second half substitute as her Mallbacken IF side claimed a 2-1 win over Krarnsvedens IK in the Swedish Elitetan.

Viola Nambi came on in the 59th minute as her Vaxjo DFF suffered a 3-0 loss against Göteborg in the Swedish Damallsvenskan.

In France, Dereck Kuteesa returned from injury as his Stade Reims FC side claimed a 2-1 win over Strasbourg FC in the French Ligue 1. Kutesa was introduced on in 78th minute for Mbuku.

In Denmark, Moses Opondo didn’t make the Match day squad once again as his Odense Boldkub side claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Horsens in the Danish Super Ligue.

Still in the Danish Super Ligue, Robert Kakeeto also missed out as AaB Aalborg claimed a 2-1 win over Brondby.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi remained out with a shoulder injury as Motherwell claimed a 2-0 win over Livingstone in the Scottish Premiership.

In England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru came on in the 72nd minute as his Wycombe Wanderers side finally claimed a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship.

Elvis Bwomono featured full-time as Southend United FC side suffered a 2-0 loss to Port Vale in the English league two.

Jayden Onen scored his second goal for Reading U23 as they claimed a 3-2 win over Newcastle United FC U23.

In the USA, Mike Azira was once again an unused substitute for Chicago Fires FC as they played out to a 1-all draw against Nashville in the Major league soccer.

In South Africa, Moses Waiswa came on in the 46th minute and provided an assist as Supersport United secured a 1-all draw against Bloemfontein Celtics in the first leg of the MTN 8 semifinals.

In Egypt, Derrick Nsibambi was an unused substitute for Smouha SC as they claimed a 2-0 win over El Masr In the Egyptian Premier League.

Allan Kyambadde never made the Match day squad as his El Gouna side suffered a 2-1 loss against El Hodoud.

In Vietnam, Joseph Mpande was once again on target as his Hai Phong FC side lost 4-2 against QNK Quang Nam in the V.League 1. Mpande in the 92nd found the back of the net.

In Israel, Both Fahad Bayo and Timothy Awany started as their side, Ashdod SC lost 1-0 to Bnei Yehuda in the Israel Premier league.

Still in Israel, Luwagga Kizito started and withdrawn in the 80th minute as Hapoel Kfar Saba suffered a 3-0 loss to M.Netanya

In Tanzania, Nicholas Wadada featured as his Azam FC side played out to a 1-all draw against JKT Tanzania in the Tanzanian Premier league.

Boban Zirintusa was still out with an injury as his side, Mtibwa Sugar FC lost 2-1 to Kagera Sugars still in the Tanzanian Premier league.

In Zambia, Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya was in goal as his Forest Rangers side claimed a 2-0 win over Nkana FC in the Zambia MTN Premier league.
