Diaspora: last gameweek before the international break – how Uganda Professional abroad fared over the weekend


The weekend action was the last before the international break where many Ugandan pros will be turning up for their national team ahead of the game against Burkina Faso and Malawi. This morning we again review how Uganda players abroad fared with their respective clubs.

Starting from South Africa, Denis Onyango started in goal for Mamelodi Sundowns as they drew 1-1 with Black Leopards in the Dstv Premiership. Defender Mosa Lebusa netted for Sundowns earlier in the game, but his goal was cancelled out by Roderick Kabwe later on.

Still in the PSL, Moses Waiswa was introduced in the 72nd minute as Supersport United came from behind to secure a 1-all with Stellenbosch on Friday. The draw propelled Supersport to the third spot on the log with 35 points in 21 games.

Ismail Watenga was an unused substitute for Chippa United as they drew 2-all with ten man Moroka Swallows at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

In England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru started and featured for 82 minutes for Wycombe Wanderers as they played out to a goalless stalemate with Coventry in the Skybet English Championship. Jordan Obita continued to sit out with an injury.

Still in the English Championship, Jayden Onen was an unused substitute for Reading FC as they drew 1-all with QPR. Lyndon Dykes broke the deadlock for QPR, but his goal was cancelled out by Yakou Méïté to ensure that Reading stayed in playoff positions.

In the English League Two, Elvis Bwomono was stretchered off during warmup and was replaced with Ricky Holmes in the starting lineup as his side, Southend United and Scunthorpe United played out to a 1-all draw

Southend sits second from bottom on the log with 31 points garnered in 36 games.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi was given a rare rest on the bench as his side, Motherwell FC suffered a 4-1 loss to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. Motherwell now sits 9th on the table with 35 points in 33 games , 7 ahead of Kilmarnock.

In Denmark, Robert Kakeeto didn’t make the matchday squad as his side, AaB Aalborg suffered a 2-0 at home to Moses Opondo’s Odense Boldkub in the Danish Superligue. Opondo started on bench and was introduced on in the 79th minute for Frøkjær-Jensen.

Odense Boldkub sits eighth on the 12-team log on 28 points, while a place below sits Aalborg who are also on 28 points but with a minimal goal difference.

In Israel, Fahad Bayo was an unused substitute, while Timothy Awanyi didn’t make the matchday squad as their side, Ashdod SC claimed a 2-0 win over Beitar Jerusalem in the Israeli Premier league.

With the win today, Ashdod now sit third on the log with 43 points in 26 games played this season.

Still in Israel, Luwagga Kizito featured full-time, but his side, Hapoel Kfar Saba were subjected to a 1-0 loss to Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona. Luwagga’s team now sits second bottom with just 23 points in 26 games.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya was an unused substitute for Konyaspor FC who claimed a 1-0 win over Alanyaspor in the Turkish Superligue. Sokol Cikalleshi netted the lone goal of the match to propel his side to their first win in five games and take them 12th on the log with 36 points.

In the Czech Republic,  Isaac Muleme was introduced in the 55th minute for Viktoria Zizkov as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Prostějov in the Czech Republic National Football league.

In Kenya, Benjamin Ochan started in goal for AFC Leopard and kept a clean sheet as they played out to a goalless stalemate with Vihiga United.

Still in the KPL, William Wadri was on target for Bandari FC as they salvaged a 2-2 draw with Wazito FC in the BetKing Kenyan Premier league. Umar Kasumba garnered his debut in the same game for Bandari when he came on in the 71st minute.

Elsewhere still in KPL, Hashim Ssempala captained Tusker FC to a 2-all draw with City Stars.

In Congo, Joseph Ochaya started and played full-time as his side, TP Mazembe played out to a goalless stalemate with Groupe Bazano in the Vodafone  Linafoot.

In Vietnam, Moses Oloya started and featured full-time as his side, Hanoi FC claimed a 3-2 win over Thanh Hoa in the Vietnam league 1.

Still in the V. League 1, Godfrey Kizito Baba started for Than Quảng Ninh and was yellow carded as they lost 1-0 to Sông Lam Nghệ An
