Diaspora: Ikpeazu, Mukiibi, Okwi and Kizito strike, Bwomono’s Southend United relegated despite win – how Ugandan professionals fared over the weekend


Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru, Ronald Mukiibi, Emmanuel Okwi and Geoffrey Baba Kizito were on target over the weekend for their respective sides while Elvis Bwomono’s Southend United was relegated as league action continued over the weekend that had many Ugandan players abroad in action.

Here is how the Ugandan players abroad fared with their respective teams.

Starting off in England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru started and netted the lone goal as his side Wycombe Wanderers defeated Bournemouth 1-0 in the SkyBet English Championship. Mubiru’s sixth of the season and lone goal came in the 4th minutes, pouncing onto a James McCarthy pass. Jordan Obita was a second substitute for Wycombe when he came on for Curtis Thompson.

With just one game to go, Wycombe still sits rock bottom with 40 points from 45 games, 3 points off the relegation line.

In the English League two, Elvis Bwomono and Southend United were relegated to the National League despite defeating Barrow 2-1. Bwomono played the full 90 minutes.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi was introduced in the 72nd minute for Steven Lawless as Motherwell FC defeated Hamilton 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership second phase. Motherwell now tops the relegation standings with 44 points garnered in 36 games with two matches to go.

In Denmark, Moses Opondo started and was subbed off in the 69th minute as his side, Odense Boldkub suffered a 2-0 loss to SønderjyskE in the Danish Superliga. Odense remains third on the relegation table with 33 points in 28 games.

Still in the Danish Superliga, Robert Kakeeto didn’t make it to the Matchday squad as his side, AaB Aalborg claimed a 4-0 win over Lyngby. Aalborg is the relegation log leaders with 39 points in 28 games.

In Israel, both Fahad Bayo and Timothy Awanyi were absent from the Matchday squad as their side, Ashdod SC and Kiryat Shmona played out to a 1-all stalemate in the Israeli Premier League. Ashdod sits third in the championship league with 50 points in 32 games.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya was an unused substitute as his side, Konyaspor FC claimed a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük in the Turkish SuperLig. Calik, Bytyqi, Shengelia and Cikalleshi were on target for Konyaspor while Jeremain Lens got Fatih’s consolation.

With three games to go, Konyaspor sits 11th on the log with 45 points, 8 above the relegation line.

In Sweden, Ronald Mukiibi got on the score sheet again for Ostersunds FK as they suffered their first league loss in the Swedish Allsvenskan after a 2-1 loss to Varbergs BoIS.

Ritah Kivumbi started and featured for 68 minutes as her side, Mallbacken played out to a goalless stalemate with Alingsås in the Swedish Elitettan.

In the Czech Republic, Edirisa Lubega featured full-time as his side, Pribram FC suffered a 1-0 loss to SK Dynamo in the Czech First League. Pribram sits second bottom with 20 points in 30 games.

In the Czech National Football league, Isaac Muleme featured full-time as his side, Viktoria Zizkov claimed a 1-0 victory over Varnsdorf.

In the USA, Mustafa Kizza started and featured for 80 minutes as his side, Montreal Impact and Columbus Crew SC drew goalless in the Major league Soccer. Montreal is still unbeaten this season with 5 points in their opening three games.

Still in the MSL, Edward Kizza was an unused substitute as his side, New England Revolution claimed a 2-1 victory over Atlanta United to go top of the Eastern Conference log with 7 points in three games.

In South Africa, Denis Onyango helped Mamelodi Sundowns return to winning ways after they defeated Orlando Pirates 3-0 in the DSTV Premiership. Ricardo Nascimento, Peter Shaluile and Lakay were on target for the Brazilians. The Sundowns sit top of the log with 51 points in 24 games, a point above Amazulu.

Ismail Watenga once again put up an impressive performance as he claimed another clean sheet as his side, Chippa United claimed a vital 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch to move out of the relegation zone. Chippa United now sits 14th on the log with 24 points, two above TTM who occupy the last relegation place. Moses Waiswa was an unused substitute for Supersport United as they drew 1-all with Baroka FC.

In Tanzania, Taddeo Lwanga made a return as his side, Simba SC came from behind to eliminate Kagera Sugar 2-1 in the Tanzanian FA Cup. Lwanga started in the middle of the park but was withdrawn at the start of the second half for your Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison.

In Egypt, Allan Kyambadde was a second halftime substitute as his side, El Gouna drew 1-all with Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier league to move ninth on the log.

Still in the Egyptian Premier League, Derrick Nsibambi featured for 67 minutes as his side, Smouha SC drew 2-all with Emmanuel Okwi’s Al Ittihad. Okwi started and netted in the 47th minute before he was subbed off 74 minutes.

Khalid Aucho was a second-half substitute as his side, El Makkasa lost 2-0 to ENPPI.

In Congo, Joseph Ochaya featured full-time for TP Mazembd as they claimed a 1-0 win over Sanga Balende in the Congolese Linafoot.

In Vietnam, Geoffrey Kizito netted the equaliser as his side, Than Quảng Ninh drew 1-all with Bình Định in the V.League 1.
