Diaspora: Deogracious Ojok nets on debut, Obita and Ssewakambo assist- how Ugandan professionals abroad fared over the weekend

A number of Ugandan internationals abroad were in action for their respective side as club football continued last weekend- This is how Ugandan professionals abroad over the weekend.

Starting off in the CAF Champions League, former BUL FC forward Deogracious Ojok netted on his debut as Tusker FC defeated Sulait Luyima’s AS Arta 3-0 to progress to the next round. Ojok’s strike came in the 70th minute with arguably his first touch after coming on.

Still in the CAF Champions League, Khalid Aucho was absent as Young Africans were eliminated after losing to Rivers United 1-0.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, both Mathias Kigonya and Nicholas Wadada played full time as Azam FC picked up a 1-0 victory away to Horseed FC to progress to the next round when they will face Egypt’s Pyramids. Shafik Batambuze also featured for Kabwe Warriors as they bowed out after a 2-1 loss to Madagascar’s CFFA with Hashim Ssempala out injured.

Goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi was in goal and kept a clean sheet as Zambia’s Red Arrows played out a goalless draw with Young Buffaloes of Eswatini. Mugabi and teammates progressed to the next round with a 2-1 aggregate.

In England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru was introduced on in the 87th minute for Midlesbourgh FC who lost 2-1 to Blackpool in the English Championship.

In the Football League One, Jordan Obita played full time and made an assist as Wycombe Wanderers secured a 2-1 victory over Charlton, while in the Football Conference League, Elvis Bwomono was still out as Southend United lost 1-0 to Torquay United.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi featured full-time  for Motherwell as they drew 1-all with log leaders Rangers FC in the Scottish Premiership.

In Denmark, Moses Opondo came off the bench in the 77th minute for James Thomasen as his side Odense Boldkub lost 2-0 to Robert Kakeeto’s AaB Aalborg in the Danish Super league. Kakeeto never featured due to an injury.

In Sweden, Ronald Mukiibi returned from an injury and featured for the last last 15 minutes while Isaac Ssewakambo featured full-time and assisted as their Ostersunds FK side secured a 2-0 over Elfsborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

In Czech Republic, Isaac Muleme was absent from the matchday squad as his side, Victoria Zizkov suffered a 2-1 loss to Brno FC in the Czech Republic National Football League.

In Portugal, Edrisa Lubega Torres was absent from the matchday squad through an injury as his side, Estrella Amadora drew 2-all with Academica in the LigaPro.

In USA, Mustafa Kizza was an unused substitute as his side, Montreal Impact secured a 2-0 victory over Chicago Fires in Major League Soccer, Another Kizza, Edward was also an unused substitute as his side, New England Revolution drew 1-all with Columbus.

In the United States League, Mike Azira featured for the last nine minutes, coming on for Amando Moreno as his side, New Mexico defeated Real Monarch 2-1.

Heading to South Africa, Denis Onyango started in goal and kept a cleansheet as Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 3-0 victory over Ts Galaxy in the DStv Premiership. Still, in PSL, Isma Watenga also started in goal as his side, Chippa United lost 3-1 to Orlando Pirates.

While Moses Waiswa Ndondi started and was subbed off in the 72nd minute as Supersport United secured a 3-0 victory over Moroka Swallows.

In Germany, Herbert Bochum was a second half substitute as his side, VFL Bochum was batted 7-0 by Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga.

In Ireland, Melvyn Lorezen was introduced on in the 67th minute as his side, Sligo Rovers lost 1-0 to Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
