Ashdod SC, where Ugandan defender Timothy Awanyi and Forward Fahad Bayo ply their trade has been eliminated from the UEFA Europa Conference League after falling to Qarabag 1-0 in the second qualification round second leg game played at Yud-Alef Stadium on Thursday.
The duo was absent from the matchday squad as their club suffered a painful defeat at home.
Ashdod came into the second leg needing just an unanswered gaol to progress after holding the Azerbaijani side to a scoreless draw in the first leg and were confident of getting the win in front of the home crowd. However, an early goal from the Filip Ozobic ended their European dream.
Bayo and Awanyi will now shift their attention to the Israeli Premier League that will be starting on 28th August.
It should be noted that Fahad Bayo last appeared for the Israeli side before the Uganda Cranes’ crucial AFCON 2020 qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Malawi. The 23-year-old has scored six goals for the side since joining them last year.
On the other hand, Timothy Awany made a brief return to first-team football for Ashdod when he appeared for 45 minutes before being substituted off in the match against Maccabi Tel Aviv on April 18th, 2021 following a one month layoff with an injury.
