Former Mbarara City tactician Brian Ssenyondo has today, the 12th July 2021 been appointed as the new Head Coach of Uganda Premier League club UPDF FC on a two-year contract, replacing Kefa Kisala was asked to leave the club after a dismal 2020/21 season.
Ssenyondo has been without a job after parting ways with the Ankole Lions midway through the 2020/21 season following a disagreement over his status at the club versus the national u17 team, the Cubs. Ssenyondo has shown optimism and preparedness for the post entrusted to him and he has promised to deliver results.
Well-known for grooming young players to senior National team players like Mustafa Mujjuzi, Nicolas Kasozi among others while still at Synergy FC, he has been presented an opportunity to showcase his abilities at the army side.
“The reason I was recruited by UPDF is to groom and nurture young talents for the future,” he disclosed to The Touchline Sports.
“I was supposed to join the club immediately as soon as I left Mbarara, but I still had engagements with the national team.”
Ssenyondo who also doubles as the Assistant Head Coach of the U17 National Team will be tasked to improve the team’s performance and football development at the club.
This becomes Ssenyondo’s second club in Uganda’s top-flight league after starting out his career at Mbarara City, a club he coached on two stints before being replaced with Charles Livingstone Mbabazi at the start of the recently concluded season.
This website has further learnt that his appointment at the club was met with a lot of resistance from undisclosed members of the coaching fraternity who felt like they deserved to be in the place of his appointment.
UPDF FC finished 8th on the table with 37 points from 27 games.
