The upcoming Olympic Day Tooke Run has received an overwhelming response from the public, with organisers confirming that more than 700 running kits were sold during the official launch, signaling growing enthusiasm for one of Uganda’s biggest community sports events.

The run, organised under the umbrella of the Uganda Olympic Committee in partnership with Tooke, is part of activities aimed at promoting fitness, inclusion, healthy living and Olympic values across Uganda.

Organisers described the early turnout as a major boost for preparations ahead of the event, noting that the rapid sale of kits reflects increasing public interest in recreational sports and wellness initiatives.

The official launch attracted athletes, sports administrators, corporate partners and fitness enthusiasts, many of whom welcomed the initiative as a platform to unite communities through sport.

Participation kits for the run were priced at Shs35,000 and include branded running gear for participants.

Officials behind the event said the Olympic Day Tooke Run is intended to encourage Ugandans of all ages to embrace physical activity while strengthening awareness about Olympic principles such as unity, excellence and friendship.

The initiative also seeks to widen access to mass participation sporting events beyond elite competition, with organisers positioning the run as a community-centered celebration of health and social inclusion.

With preparations continuing, organisers expressed confidence that participation numbers will continue to rise in the coming weeks as registration remains open.

The strong early response is expected to attract increased corporate support and broader public engagement, especially among youth, schools, fitness clubs and recreational runners.

Sports stakeholders have increasingly advocated for such initiatives as Uganda continues to push for stronger grassroots participation in athletics and wellness programmes.

The Olympic Day Tooke Run now joins a growing list of sports-driven community campaigns aimed at encouraging active lifestyles while promoting national unity through sport.
