Diamond League winning duo of Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will lead Uganda’s team that will take part in the this year’s 2020 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.
The event is set to be held in Gdynia 2020 on October 17, 2020, in the Northern Polish Baltic Coast City of Poland.
Cheptegei who recently made a new record in the 5000m during the Diamond League meet in Monaco will lead the nine-man Ugandan team and will be assisted by recent Golden Spike 5000m champion and Meet Record holder Jacob Kiplimo, who is also a 3000m champion at the Rome Diamond League. Stephen Kissa, Abel Chebet, and Moses Kibet sum up the men’s team.

The team is comprised of four female members and will be spearheaded by Juliet Chekwel who will be running at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships for the first time.
Chekwel made her first major appearance in 2018 at the Cardiff Commonwealth Half Marathon where she clocked 1:09:45 in the event.
She will line up alongside Doreen Chesang, Doreen Chemutai, and Rachael Zena Chebet, some of the country’s finest distance runners.
Uganda last participated in the World half Marathon in 2018 in Valencia, Spain where the men’s team finished 5th and women 16th.
